How do I calculate pool gallons?▼
Multiply surface area in square feet by average depth in feet, then by 7.48 gallons per cubic foot. Average depth is the shallow end plus the deep end, divided by two.
How accurate is the kidney pool estimate?▼
Freeform pools use the industry approximation (wide end plus narrow end) times length times 0.45. Expect it to be within 10 to 15%. For dosing that is close enough, and the two-pass acid method absorbs the difference.
Does a hopper or sloped floor change the math?▼
Using the average of the shallow and deep ends assumes an even slope. A pool with a long flat shallow section and a short steep hopper holds less than the average suggests, so shade the deep end number down a little.
